Here's a big announcement for you all! Candian Author Sylvain Neuvel is coming to #AdAstra2018! This is your chance to get his autograph and hear his incredible story of how he came to be an author...
Sylvain Neuvel dropped out of high school at age 15. Along the way, he has been a journalist, worked in soil decontamination, sold ice cream in California, and peddled furniture across Canada. He received a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Chicago. He taught linguistics in India, and worked as a software engineer in Montreal. He is also a certified translator, though he wishes he were an astronaut. He likes to tinker, dabbles in robotics and is somewhat obsessed with Halloween. He absolutely loves toys; his girlfriend would have him believe that he has too many, so he writes about aliens and giant robots as a blatant excuse to build action figures (for his son, of course). ... The Draw has (finally) taken place! and Gary Layng was the lucky winner of 2 weekend tickets (AKA passes or memberships)
hey hey - we will make the announcement tonight who wins the pair of weekend passes!
Daniel (me) would have had it done last night - but was stuck at work for more than 14 hours. Being completely volunteer-run has some disadvantages - but does make for a great Fan event for fans!
I've never attended before but have been a long time Maria V. Snyder fan so I am really looking forward to meeting her!! Jennifer Myles
Chelsey are you going again this year?
Sarah Marie this seems interesting and fun... too bad it's in Toronto
i look forward to ad astra every year bc it’s been a tradition for my family ever since i can remember! i’ve always volunteered, but the past few years i’ve gotten into actually attending panels and learning about new books, and it’s been a blast. also - seeing all the geeks bust a move at the saturday night dance is always a highlight of my weekend.
I can not wait for this weekend... For me it will be all about hearing stories from Timothy Zahn and Bill Fawcett! and I do enjoy the book launches.
Just registered. I used to be a regular, but haven't been in about 4 years. Looking forward to returning.
Last year was my first year and I got a lot of valuable information from the panels and had such an amazing time. Made new friends and gained a confidence that I didn't know I was lacking. Mike Lutz you really should attend!!
I am looking forward to coming back, this year. 😊
We're looking forward to it.

On this date in 1980, The Empire Strikes Back novelization by Donald F. Glut arrived in stores. While audiences would be captivated by the film once it opened in theaters on May 21, anyone who picked up a copy of the book could have learned the film's great reveal about Luke's heritage more than a month earlier! ... What a coincidence! There's an original copy of this for sale at the BMV at Yonge & Eglinton, or there was a day ago.
The comic book adaptation of Episode I came out a little before the movie was released. Intrigued, I bought it and read only the first three pages to avoid spoilers. I could not believe that somebody might actually make a science fiction movie based on those premises.
I was too young and not into books at all - I image it was because there was no internet that the news of Daddy Vader didn't get out.
My hometown library had ALL the 70's and 80's era Star Wars books (Expanded universe, visual guides, and novelizations), I read this one for a book report once! Hahaha, the teacher was fine with movie novelizations...
#AdAstra2018 GoH Timothy Zahn has a new book coming! Thrawn: Alliances ,,. on sale 2018-07-24. We suggest having both books for him to sign when you meet him at Ad Astra! 😉
